At this point in my career, my main passion is supervising new therapists who want to specialize in working with trans, queer, and poly clients. I have 5 years of experience providing clinical supervision, including both Master’s-level interns and Associate-level clinicians pursuing licensure.
My past supervisees have described me as highly present, supportive, and focused. As your supervisor, my primary goal is for you to develop a solid practice of self-reflection, and to be able to articulate your own understanding of what therapy is and why you do it. I will consistently challenge you to process your countertransference, to frame your work through a theoretical lens, and to practice to a high ethical standard.
I also strongly believe in the value of direct observation of sessions, particularly through video recording, not only for interns, but also for post-graduate professionals. I think we achieve so much more learning and growth this way, both through observing our own work from outside of ourselves, and from having others give us feedback that isn't just based on self-report. I'm happy to work with you on finding solutions if you have worries about being on video or talking to your clients about recording sessions.
I expect my supervisees to come prepared to supervision, ready to present 2-3 cases to conceptualize. Ideally, I would like for us to arrange to watch video or have me observe one of your sessions every 1-2 months (depending on each of our schedules). I also expect supervisees to follow through with doing independent study as needed in order to improve their practice. (Obviously we all have to complete CEUs, but I mean in addition to those requirements. Like, did you realize you're working with a client who has a medical condition you've never heard of? Research it!)
If you are interested in working with me as a supervisor, remember that I have high expectations for you--because I know that you'll be able to meet them!
